You’ll need to enter Crif Dogs restaurant, find the phone booth, pick up the receiver and ring the doorbell. The strict routine is worth it though… ‘Please Don’t Tell’ offers a variety of classic New York cocktails.
The Garret
This one also involves entering a functioning restaurant to gain access to the bar concealed within. Follow the stairs inside the Five Guys in Greenwich Village until you reach the wood panelled bar at the top of the building. The Garret offers morning tea, which turns gradually into afternoon cocktails as the sun drifts across the skylight overhead. This is an easy place to while away the day without the chaos and noise of the streets below.
The Campbell Apartment
A hidden bar inside Grand Central Terminal? That’s right. The Campbell Apartment was previously a private room in the 1920’s, and still has the original tall stained glass windows, fireplace and high ceilings of the time, which provide the perfect ambience for a traditional speakeasy.
Little Branch
Two large metal doors fortify the entrance to Little Branch. Enjoy a drink, some live jazz and a chat with the bartender and other patrons in this casual setting.
The Back Room
Step through the hidden entrance and back in time at The Back Room, located on Norfolk Street. Enjoy the eccentricities of a cocktail served in a teacup, and a roaring fireplace completes the moody atmosphere.
Apotheke
This hideaway gets its name from its homemade alcohol which is stored behind the bar in old pharmacy pots. The menu is a bit on the pricey side, but worth it for the homemade touch and air of utmost luxury, elegance and exclusivity.
Angel’s Share
Hidden behind one of the doors inside Village Yokocho Japanese restaurant, lies the hyper secret Angel’s Share. Private parties are often hosted here, but if you catch an open night, be sure to try one of their whiskey cocktails.
